@joel@fosstodon.org @sotolf@polymaths.social gonna see if I can get half an hour in tonight... Download 64% complete
People were talking about games...
Specifically a game I recently played and absolutely loved (Outer Wilds - best game ever made. change my mind)
So, I've bought 1000xRESIST because @joel@fosstodon.org @sotolf@polymaths.social and others have recommended it.
So I'll be playing 1000xRESIST soon
And when I've done that I'll be doing Echoes of the Eye (Outer Wilds DLC - I've been letting Outer Wilds linger in my mind a bit first).
Does anybody have a void? I would like to scream into one
Feeling it today...
Them: "hello, can we make this AI slop 'app' we made and put on netlify connect to our internal systems?" (It's just HTML and JS)
Me: "lol, absolutely not"
@sotolf@polymaths.social embarassingly, I always get confused of my own country code
"is it UK, or is it GB... isn't UK Ukraine? no, that's UA, so I must be UK oh but no I'm not I'm GB, unless we're talking about keyboard layouts when it's UK, and the TLD is .uk. oh my this is such a mess" - my brain
Today I learned that Windows have renamed the Remote Desktop app to "Windows App"
To put that another way... There's a Windows app called Windows App allowing you to connect to remote Windows computers.
It's a stupid.

Well, I finally had an "AI in the workplace" meeting...
As an external contractor, I'm privileged that my opinion matters to them, and I _think_ I've managed to convince them that having an LLM pretend to be human to say nice things to the staff members and customers is a bad idea.
I was also able to demonstrate the privacy/reputation/security issues with some things they have already done, i.e. creating "apps" (static HTML and js webpages) and uploading them to varying services (vercel, nelify, etc.) Is a baaaaad idea.
And after extracting the "what problem is it you're trying to solve" question, another couple of people and myself were able to say "why haven't you asked for that before? It would just be a simple report!"
They may still have "AI" in their future in some form, but I think I've managed to cease the idiocy for now.
"It's only going to get better" was said though, to which I responded "it fundamentally cannot"... And then described the economical, environmental and general exponential growth problem/power requirement of having hundreds of billions of tokens in a model to actually get better.
Did I do well?
My van is in for service today so I get to walk to a client's place!
I should do this more often.
#Walking
On one hand, I really, really, love #littleFedi's remote instance status page.
On the other hand, it has highlighted that the instance where most people I follow is in a "Failing" state...
You all OK over there at polymaths.social ?
@nuintari@bsd.cafe @nextcloud@mastodon.xyz always prefer whitepapers over videos and brochures.
Don't rule us boring lot out! We're your best free support operatives! 🤣
@rqm@0xde501a7a.net @bpl@snac.bsd.cafe @paul@fedi.paulwilde.uk bad like the 1980's smash hit song and accompanying album by Michael Jackson (careful now)?
Self-hosting's bad, it's bad, shamone.
@rqm@0xde501a7a.net @paul@paulwilde.uk @bpl@snac.bsd.cafe ah, you had those shitty Microsoft installers in? Yeah, totally not trustworthy 😂
@bpl@snac.bsd.cafe @paul@fedi.paulwilde.uk @rqm@0xde501a7a.net _bad_ handypeople do not need to care about their work...but good handypeople take pride in the work they do.
Anyway, totally agreed self-hosting isn't for everyone. Definitely not something to recommend something they do unless they understand some critical infrastructure, but that does not make it bad.
@bpl@snac.bsd.cafe @rqm@0xde501a7a.net self-hosting is bad in the same way hanging your kitchen cabinets is bad
They work and are probably fine, but you're always worried they're going to fall off the wall and trash the rest of your house in the process
@rl_dane@polymaths.social most of them are bots anyway - probably just clones of poo-sky or misstagram posts
I was introduced to a song yesterday and I think the #fediverse may like it too
Mum does the washing - Joshua Idehen
Look it up using your most favourite music finding service and sit back and enjoy.
... Then do the washing and hug your mum (physically, virtually or spiritually. All are good)

@tofeo@mstdn.social @stefano@littleone.littlefedi.social the documentation explains what you need to do, but you can pretty much download the binary, run littleFedi init, answer all the questions and be up and running.
You will need to use a reverse proxy though - caddy is probably the easiest, but nginx, Apache httpd, haproxy, traffic, etc. Can all do it.
