People were talking about games...
Specifically a game I recently played and absolutely loved (Outer Wilds - best game ever made. change my mind)
So, I've bought 1000xRESIST because @joel@fosstodon.org @sotolf@polymaths.social and others have recommended it.
So I'll be playing 1000xRESIST soon
And when I've done that I'll be doing Echoes of the Eye (Outer Wilds DLC - I've been letting Outer Wilds linger in my mind a bit first).

@sotolf@polymaths.social @joel@fosstodon.org Managed to get about an hour in last night. I'm not quite sure what's going on yet but I do like the time shift mechanic. It reminds me a lot of Oracle of Ages/Oracle of Seasons.
Not sure what the zipping around sections are for yet, where you have to target and zip to a marker. It feels a bit like nodes/neurons in the brain getting connected up to form memories or something which is a nice way of doing it if so.
Anyway, I've just unlocked the third time area so we'll see what I learn there soon!

@paul @joel Yeah, the whole thing is kind of not going to make complete sense before you get almost through it, and even then some things are more metaphorical than really something spelled out :) I will not spoil anything though :) the time thing isn't that prominent later on, but it's one fun mechanic, later places will have some other more or less weird ones :0

@sotolf@polymaths.social I managed to get in another couple of hours yesterday. Learning a lot about the sisters, mother, ancient mother, and the virus.
Not sure what the occupants are yet - I thought when it was first mentioned it was just a name they gave to humans, but since then they've spoken about them being headless, and there was an attack, so I'm thinking it's the massive glowing red things that have jumpscared me a few times as I turn around or look out of a window 🤣
I'm not sure, yet, if we're supposed to be feeling emotional for Iris. as it's terrible what's going on with her and her parents etc. But also she seems a bit of a bad person - maybe misunderstood? Maybe bad choices. We shall see.
Anyway, there are two massive stars in a cave right now and I need to learn to speak like a human apparently (both in the game and out of it 🙃)

P.s. I have screenshots, but I'm not on the device where they are!

All good from me - generally I enjoy the journey to the answer rather than the answer itself.
And in this particular case I kind of already knew something was going to happen as there's the "talking" ring/crown/node thing

@joel@fosstodon.org
Long time point-and-click adventure gamer right here. Talking to everybody and walking down every path is the default way I play games 🤣

@sotolf@polymaths.social Ooooh Principal. Youngest. Fade to black. Intro credits. Old town.
This is getting very interesting
And @joel@fosstodon.org , you'll be proud of me, I got the "Speak to everybody in Chapter 6 part 1" achievement 😄
re: 1000xRESIST discussion. Likely spoilers
@paul @joel @amin Things will really start to come together around this point, the game has introduced most of the new stuff and starts tying it all up, I think it did a pretty good job of it at least. For a game it's a really good story, not reaching the levels of a mediocre book, but I don't expect that much from a game :p
re: 1000xRESIST discussion. Likely spoilers
@sotolf@polymaths.social 1000xRESIST is done 🙂
Probably got another couple of endings to get, but I have reached _an_ ending (where there's some satisfactory result and the credits roll)
I probably would have liked a little more freedom in walking around. I know there was a couple of chapters where we had access to a large area, but sometimes things happen to pull you out of that chapter before exploring everything. I know I have missed things because of this.
Still, I had fun and followed the story. The choose your ending part was nicely done, and how what is said about each of them changes as you select/deselect others. It kind of gave a hint to how "good" the ending would be - I did not pick a good first ending!

re: 1000xRESIST discussion. Likely spoilers
@paul @joel @amin Hah, I have only gotten one ending, so I'm not sure what others there are.
All in all, how did you like it? It's a pretty decent story, and it made me think. I enjoyed it quite a bit at least, it dealing with some sci-fi teams pretty well, the individuality where there might not seem to be at first glance (clones) Fight against autocrasy, what it means to fight and so on, I find it pretty nicely done, and I think it was my favourite game coming out that year.
I also enjoy how it's kind of different from other games, it has parts that at first glance just seems weird, or just put in for no reason. and some times I kind of think it is, it kind of feels like a game that is different. And that Real life cut scene in the middle came as quite a shock to me, it just has a lot of fun things like that.
re: 1000xRESIST discussion. Likely spoilers
@sotolf@polymaths.social @joel@fosstodon.org @amin@polymaths.social honestly, I liked it as an interactive novel, but I would have preferred some more gameplay in a few areas.
I especially would have liked some more gameplay in the first chapter in the orchard, to help learn the layout etc. just a bit of "take item A to person B" (that we had a little of in the old town) would have been nice to help. I found myself exploring and then before I knew it I was in a lift to the principal and onto the next part.
But yep, I did like the story. The clone hierarchy was an interesting concept. It reminded me a little of the 3rd part of Seveneves by Neal Stephenson. I certainly felt for a few characters - Bartender has to be everybody's favourite, right? That hurt to be honest.

If you are interested in something where story and mechanics intertwine a bit more there is "I was a teenage exocolonist" Which I thoroughly enjoyed, the mechanics are more of a simple card game solitairish thing and balancing meters though, so it might also not be up your alley I have seen people dislike it as well.
re: 1000xRESIST discussion. Likely spoilers
I like the minigame too, but part of the way through this run I kind of wished I had taken a different direction, so I'm speedrunning this round a bit to do the path I'm wanting on the next one.
That said when you disable it, it does still have the chance of failure; it does a coin flip, essentially, with the likelihood of success depending on how strong the cards you have are and the difficulty of the challenge. Essentially turning the card game into a D&D-style attribute check. :)
